Every 'best' and 'vs' page on MakeResume links here. This page explains exactly how we research, score, weight, verify, and disclose those rankings — including where MakeResume itself is one of the products ranked.
Every product is scored from its own current pricing page, feature pages, and help center — the same sources a careful buyer would read before signing up. We do not create paid accounts on competitor products and run a hands-on, stopwatch-timed trial.
This is a deliberate, disclosed limitation, not an oversight. Where a vendor's own documentation is silent or ambiguous on a specific claim, we mark that fact 'Not verified' rather than guess or assume the more favorable answer — you'll see this in the feature tables as a distinct state from Yes, No, Partial, and Paid plans only.
Every fact that is verifiable carries a source link and the date it was last checked, so a reader can independently confirm anything we claim rather than take our word for it.
Every product is rated 0–10 on the same seven criteria below, using the exact rubric text published here — the identical text a comparison page’s own methodology section shows for that page’s weighting. A page publishes which of these it weights and by how much; weights always sum to 1.0, and the engine that builds these pages refuses to publish a page whose weights don’t.
Each criterion above gets a documentation-based 0–10 score against its published rubric, with the evidence behind it cited in the product's review. We deliberately don't combine those seven numbers into one precise overall score like “7.8”.
A weighted sum compounds the precision problem: even if each criterion score is defensible to the nearest point or half-point against its rubric, arithmetic on seven such judgments produces a number that looks far more exact than the underlying evidence supports. We haven't validated that decimal-level precision through hands-on testing, so we don't publish it as if we had.
What we publish instead: a rank order (based on the same weighted criteria, computed the same way for every product), award badges for genuine category wins (Best Overall, Best ATS, Best Value, and so on — each with a stated reason you can check against the evidence), and a worded overall standing — Excellent, Strong, Good, or Fair — in place of a number. Two products can land in the same tier, or very close rank order, when the underlying evidence is genuinely close — read that as “roughly comparable,” not as a meaningfully verified gap.
The criterion-by-criterion comparison is the part we stand behind most: every number there is tied to a published rubric band and, where possible, a specific cited observation. Start there if you want to understand why one product outranks another, rather than trusting a single top-line figure.
Comparison pages are researched and scored by our Career Experts editorial team, the same byline used across MakeResume's career-advice content. This is a small in-house team, not an independent, third-party testing lab — we say so plainly rather than imply a scale of operation we don't have.
For our general content standards — sourcing, use of AI, and corrections — see our editorial policy. This page covers what's specific to comparison and ranking pages: scoring, weighting, verification, and disclosure.
MakeResume publishes these comparisons and is itself one of the ranked products on some of them. Every page that features our own product says so, in a visible banner near the top — not in fine print at the bottom.
We do not place MakeResume above a higher-scoring competitor on its own published weights. Where an editor manually overrides the computed ranking for a stated reason, that reason is shown on the page itself, not just recorded in our data.
As of this writing, no product on any comparison page carries an affiliate relationship with MakeResume. If that changes for a specific page, that page will carry an explicit affiliate disclosure — our publishing pipeline refuses to include an affiliate link without one.
Every factual claim about a product — a price, a feature, a template count — is stored with the date it was last checked and, where the claim is independently checkable, a link to the page it came from. You'll see these as 'Verified' or 'Reviewed' dates throughout each comparison page.
We do not fabricate scores, reviews, pricing, or feature support. Where we cannot confirm a claim from a vendor's own materials, the feature is marked 'Not verified' rather than assumed.
We aim to re-check pricing and feature facts for every listed product at least once per quarter, and sooner whenever we're notified a fact is wrong or out of date. Because every fact carries its own verification date, you can judge freshness directly rather than trust an unstated cadence.
Found something that's changed or looks wrong? Tell us and we'll review it — we correct genuine errors rather than leave them.
The Best AI Resume Builders comparison is the first page built on this methodology, scored end to end using the process above.
No — and we want to be upfront about that rather than imply otherwise. We score every product from its own current pricing, feature, and help-center pages, the same way a careful shopper would research before buying. We do not create paid accounts on competitor products to run a stopwatch-timed hands-on trial. Where a vendor's own documentation doesn't answer a question, we mark that fact 'not verified' instead of guessing.
No. MakeResume is scored against the exact same published rubric as every other product on a page, and every comparison page discloses that we publish it and are one of the products ranked. If a competitor scores higher on the page's published weights, it's listed above us — see the disclosure banner and the individual review for our own placement's reasoning.
Not currently. None of the products in our comparison pages carry an affiliate relationship with MakeResume as of this writing. If that changes for a specific page, that page will carry an explicit affiliate disclosure — our comparison engine refuses to publish an affiliate link without one.
We aim to re-check pricing and feature facts for every listed product at least once per quarter, and immediately whenever we're notified a fact is out of date. Every fact carries the date it was last checked, so you can judge freshness yourself instead of taking our word for it — see the 'Reviewed' and 'Verified' dates throughout each page.
Tell us. We correct genuine errors rather than quietly leaving them, and we update the fact's verification date when we do. Use the contact link at the bottom of this page.
A star rating implies an aggregate of real end users. Our scores are one publisher's documentation-based editorial assessment against a published rubric, which is a different thing — labeling it as a user rating would misrepresent it. That's also why our comparison pages don't carry aggregate-rating structured data.
Because a weighted sum of seven documentation-based judgments can't defend a decimal like '7.8' against a '7.5' the way hands-on testing could. Each criterion gets a numeric score against a published rubric with cited evidence — that's the part we stand behind. For the overall comparison, we publish a rank order, category-winner awards (Best Overall, Best ATS, and so on, each with a stated reason), and a worded standing (Excellent, Strong, Good, or Fair) instead of a combined number.
